M.O.M & P.O.P

The ministry impact that I have been blessed to accomplish in Praise & Worship is due in part, to the teachings, impartation, encouragement and loving correction of my Pastor, Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr. The Kingdom partnership we were able to forge for over thirty-five years has changed the face of the ministry of worship as we know it, and it is primarily from the vantage point of this relationship that this book is penned.

The relationship between Pastor and Minister of Music is one where there must be a unification of thought, vision, mutual respect, and an alignment of purpose. When the words ‘Mom’ and ‘Pop’ are mentioned, it invokes a mental picture of a mother and father, heading a household of children. Similarly, the interconnection between the Minister of Music (MOM) and the Pastor of the People (POP) is important for the balance of music ministry and the Word of God. The Music Ministry should be crafted so the environment is conducive to planting the seed of the Word of God into the hearts of the people, which is the most important part of any worship service.

What I have learned over my forty-plus years in this facet of ministry, I now share with you, and I pray that the lessons and principles in this book will serve as encouragement to you – helping you understand to some degree both the roles of MOM and POP, and why Ministers of Music are vital to the success of facilitating the atmosphere for worship.
